Medical Supply Recovery
Connecting Iowa hospitals, clinics, and other facilities that maintain medical or emergency equipment with established international redistribution organizations to recover any medical surplus — instruments, supplies, equipment, anything unused or retired — for developing countries.
Heartland Lift operates a medical surplus recovery program that collects any unused or retired medical surplus — instruments, supplies, and equipment — from hospitals, clinics, and other facilities that maintain medical or emergency equipment, and redistributes them to underserved medical facilities internationally. Donated items are accepted on an as-is basis and listed in a publicly available inventory. Partner organizations may request items directly from that inventory. All donations and transfers are governed by formal agreements available for download below.

How It Works
Donation Intake
Hospital or facility contacts Heartland Lift. A formal donation agreement is signed before any items are transferred.
Review & Cataloguing
Donated items are reviewed upon receipt and catalogued by type and condition.
Inventory Listing
Accepted items are listed in our publicly available inventory with condition notes.
Partner Request
Established redistribution organizations browse the inventory and submit requests for items they need.
Transfer & Redistribution
Items are transferred to partner organizations who handle final distribution to underserved facilities internationally.
All donated items are stored in a climate-controlled facility and tracked through a digital inventory maintained by Heartland Lift.
Responsible Disposal
Not every donated item can be redistributed. Expired electrodes, depleted batteries, and equipment past its service life cannot be safely sent to a partner facility. Heartland Lift accepts these items in reasonable quantities alongside a donation and routes them to certified electronic waste and battery recycling rather than returning them to the donor.
This means a facility clearing a supply closet can hand off everything at once. Items suitable for redistribution enter our inventory; the rest are disposed of responsibly on our end.
For Donating Facilities
If your hospital, clinic, or any facility with medical or emergency equipment — including airports, fixed base operators, schools, and workplaces — has any medical surplus, contact us to begin the donation process. We also accept patient monitors and other diagnostic and monitoring equipment. A donation agreement is available for review and signature below.
